Passenger Equipment

The NY&NO owned at least two passenger cars, both ex-CNJ. The first was a combine which arrived July 20, 1899. The second, an open-end day coach, arrived on September 8, 1899. The combine was painted red and described as “very pretty.” After passing to the NOFJ, the coach became so decrepit that it was placed out of service which left the one combine car to handle the line’s passenger business. In June 1905, the RV acquired a combine. A passenger coach was placed into service on August 28, 1905. The RV seems to have owned as many as six passenger cars at any one time. In 1914, the railroad owned two combines and one coach: Nos. 10-12. These appear to be the cars operated by the railroad until the end of passenger service in July 1919. Two cars were discarded at that time. A third, a combine, was retained in Kenilworth as a quarters for the night hostler. Roger A. Clark had that burned about 1923. According to Warren Crater, RV passenger equipment was painted red with gold lettering.
