Crossing Accident

by Walt Switz

There was one on Michigan Ave., we were going to the CNJ and it was raining. There were a lot of parked cars which were limiting visibility. We started over the crossing, the flagman got out, ran out, actually, and then a car came. The driver obviously didn't know what was going on. The driver hit the brakes, semi-skidded, and just caught the corner of the step on the engine. There were six people in this compact car and they were coming out like clowns. The accident did a couple hundred dollars worth of damage to the car but only wrinkled the steps on one of the 70-tonners, no big deal.
